Project Description

In 2023–2024, I joined the Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) as a Graphic Designer, supporting the team’s digital presence throughout the season. As a lifelong athlete who played NCAA Division 1 soccer, this project held personal significance — it brought together my passion for sport and my professional work in design.

My role involved designing and producing fast-turnaround, high-impact graphics for social media, in-game storytelling, broadcast support, and league-wide communications. The goal was to create visuals that reflected the energy, speed, and competitive spirit of the Honey Badgers brand while engaging fans across digital platforms.

The Challenge

The CEBL operates in a fast-moving environment where content must be visually strong, timely, and immediately shareable. The biggest challenges included:

  • Real-time content demands — game results, injury updates, roster changes, and highlights needed to be designed and published quickly.

  • Brand consistency across the league — graphics needed to align with both Honey Badgers branding and CEBL-wide standards.

  • Engagement in a competitive sports market — visuals had to stand out and capture attention among many teams, leagues, and sports creators.

  • High volume of deliverables — from social posts to broadcast graphics, content had to be produced efficiently without sacrificing quality.

These challenges required speed, adaptability, and a strong visual strategy to maintain cohesion across every touchpoint.

My Role

As the Graphic Designer, I was responsible for:

  • Designing scalable, adaptable graphics for social, web, email, and digital documents

  • Producing real-time game day graphics, including matchup previews, halftime updates, and final scores

  • Creating graphics for broadcast & livestream production

  • Developing team and league social content that followed best practices and brand guidelines

  • Collaborating with the Sr. Coordinator of Communications & Marketing to ensure brand alignment

  • Participating in marketing & creative brainstorms to support long-term brand growth

  • Managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-quality visuals

This role required both creative direction and hands-on production, blending visual strategy with rapid execution.

Creative Execution

The creative direction centered on bold, athletic, high-contrast visuals that reflect the Honey Badgers’ identity — energetic, confident, and fiercely competitive.

Key elements of the execution included:

  • High-impact typographic layouts to convey urgency and excitement

  • Clean templates that allowed for quick updates on game days

  • Consistent brand elements (color palette, textures, logo treatment) to maintain a unified look across platforms

  • Adaptable assets that worked across Instagram, X/Twitter, web, and broadcast formats

The result was a cohesive digital presence that amplified the team's personality, increased engagement, and supported league-wide storytelling.

Designing for the Brampton Honey Badgers reinforced how powerful sports branding can be when paired with fast, agile creative execution. Working in a real-time environment pushed me to think quickly, stay adaptable, and create visuals that are both intentional and energetic. It also reminded me how much I love working at the intersection of sport and design— a space where storytelling, emotion, and team identity all collide.

This project strengthened my ability to manage high-volume production, maintain brand integrity under tight timelines, and contribute creatively to a team-driven environment. Most of all, it showed me that the work I’m most proud of often comes from the worlds I’m personally connected to.
